Two Central Florida tech firms plan to hire employees and grow their inventory after raising $2 million in venture capital.
Celebration-based Violet Defense Group, which includes Violet Defense and Violet Gro, announced the closure of the fundraising round on Nov. 5. The round was led by local venture capital firm Kirenaga Partners.
Violet Gro has continued creating market inroads through its recently announced partnership with Hyperponic who has selected Violet Gro’s LED lights as the primary light source for its fully integrated, patent-pending CropTower.
The Hyperponic CropTower is a technologically advanced growing system that provides growers with a complete computer-controlled environment and nutrition management system to facilitate increased quality and consistency, faster production, reduced space requirement and better yields at lower costs.

Violet Gro has announced it is teaming up with Greener,
an advanced analytics and energy management technology platform, and Manx Farms, a grow collective based out of Los Angeles, to develop best practices for producing pharmaceutical-grade cannabis.
“This collaboration will enable us to further refine our product design, concretely quantify the benefits of our grow lights, as well as document proven methods for creating the optimal grow environment for cannabis,” said Kurt Kucera, president of Violet Gro.

Violet Gro has announced it is working with researchers from University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Mid-Florida Research and Education Center (MREC) to further explore the use of ultraviolet light in indoor growing environments to identify the best ways to grow plants that produce compounds of medicinal and therapeutic value, including industrial hemp. While prior studies have demonstrated the numerous benefits of UV light to indoor grow environments, there has been little research conducted specifically around the introduction of UV into indoor grow environments for hemp.
